Neighbor Dogs....again....UPDATE AT END OF THREAD!

well I can thoroughly understand your situation and what you are going through. Last year in the spring the neighbours German Shepperd broke his leash and got loose. He started coming around my yard and I was forced to put up 8 foot steel fencing to keep my dogs in and his dog out. His dog comes over and defecates all over my yard and in front of the mail box and pees on my van tires non stop. Scopes the coop and run and taunts my dogs. The fault is not on the dog but the owner, he is well aware that his dog is running rampant, not only on my property but through the other neighbours gardens and vegetable patch too. Now this dog chases cars and will jump out in front of vehicles as they try to pass by their house, he has almost ran me off the road several times, as well as the school bus. Last summer we went for a walk and before going we looked to see if the dog was out, he wasn't so we took the kids and headed down to the creek to look for frogs, as we passed the house the neighbour opened his door and let his beast of a dog out, Beautiful dog but not well raised at all. He charged at us I had the 2 kids hiding behind me and I was yelling at the neighbour to call his dog and he just smirked at me and closed the door. Well my Saint Bernard king Shepperd mix must of heard the commotion because somehow he found it in him to scale the fence and come to our rescue, if he had not shown up the dog would have harmed one of us. I ended having to lay on top of my dog after the other one retreated, he was just not having any of it, and just wanted to take that dog apart.
I complaint to AC and called town council so many times and yet nothing has been done, the rules here are different, I cannot shoot this dog, I cannot trap it, or catch it, I have to get someone else to do it like AC but they won't do nothing so I am sooo out of luck. I am at a loss here, and I am sorry to say this because I love animals, and I got 6 dogs of my own, but if we had the ability to shoot a dog who was posing a threat to us, I would have done it already.

All i can do is wait and keep complaining and writing letters until something happens which will be the only time AC will come out and actually do their job!!!

Hopefully it doesn't come to you having to take the last option and I hope your neighbour smartens up.

Get some pepper or bear spray! Make sure you have it with you whenever you're outside of your fence and spray the darn dog in the face (I mean, if this is legal in your country). You can also try getting one of those ultrasound devices that you can point at a dog and it goes away (sorry, I don't know what they're called) and sound it whenever that dog is in your yard. Some ideas I hope may help.
ETA: second post has a pic of the sound device https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=505851

OP
: I'm so glad you didn't have to shoot it!

I am glad for some resolution, and I am hoping that this will serve as a learning experience for the owners (whether they find their dog or get a new one), and that their eyes will be hoped. (Yeah, I'm an optomist and a wishful thinker

Be prepared. They will get yet another dog.

Go the extra mile and put up your fences.

umm, will have to disagree here....legally you may be entitled to shoot...but the police can't protect you from the vindictive fallout from you shooting the neighbors pet, even if you were in the right. I had a similar situation, neighbor stole my dog and we took it back. He called police and they came. We showed vet bills, bill of sale, akc papers and proved we owned the dog. He never answered the door when police came, so he went out of town and his girlfriend chained the dog and left. Dh went and got the dog. He called, told him we had it, he went ballistic. We were vandalized, torrmented for 3 years, protection order, pictures....um, yeah, useless. Police said THEY needed to see him violate the order. They did, they walked in the road and into our house while he was shining a high power flashlight in my kids bedrooms, shined right in the officers face. DA didn't prosecute. He came back 5 months after he was evicted and tried running 2 of my kids over on their way home from school(mile dirt rd), dh was on his way to get kids and kids told him what happened. He went to yell at him and he tried stabbing dh with a pen(dh didn't know it was a pen) and dh disarmed him and knocked him out. DH was arrested, they didn't do anything to him about the kids cuz no one else saw it

. So, in the end this 50 something year old guy that registers his vehicle in another state to not pay tax, uses every system he can, contributes nothing to society got my husband, decorated veteran, shriner, mason, soccer coach, cub scout leader arrested and now we have to pay HIM. yeah, no faith in the legal system anymore, I felt naive. We had returned the dog to the breeder btw.
If we had just said "what dog?" when the girlfriend went looking for it we would have saved ourselves much grief. It's not shooting but it is a "missing" animal nonetheless...
