Neighbor Dogs....again....UPDATE AT END OF THREAD!

Some places charge to drop off animals at the pound. If you have to pay $50 to drop off the animal and the owner has to pay $120 to get it back, plus the cost of the mandatory shots and neutering, local government is making a killing.

Animal control in my area is pretty much worthless. They are not about to go out in the heat to chase a vicious dog and not make any money on it.

The best option is good fencing. Add electric to that, and you have a real winner.

When we used to have the ranch and had a problem with loose dogs, we would put out a very dead animal for the dog to roll in. No dog can resist this. Hopefully, rover will make it to their new sofa before the problem is detected.

After they have to bathe their dogs a couple of times, they would see the light.

If you have to SSS, make sure you have the hole dug and ready. There is nothing worse that having a neighbor come looking for rover, only to find you digging a hole and rover very dead.

Worse than that is poisoning the dog and having Rover make it home. (poisoning saves the villain from having to watch his deeds in action)

I am not a big fan of shooting things. Those bullets just keep on going until they hit something. Usually, it is something that you really didn't want to shoot, like your new $200,000 tractor, your best bull, or worse your wife's car.

In the end, fencing is the best option. If the offending dog is eliminated, they will just get another one, and that one may be worse.

Spend the money and avoid all of the conflict.

Rufus, I apologize, that wasn't meant as an attack on you comment. After thinking about it, you were probably more bang on than I was there. Getting caught red handed with someones dead dog could very well be the worst.

If you bring a dog to the pound for this reason..do you tell the pound the truth?
just in case it happens to me. I live in the country but there is alot of dogs down the road.

Yes, it is always best to keep on the neighbor's good side. Remember, your kids will be going to school with their kids, and they will be the ones that will call 911 when you have a heart attack.

You tell the pound the truth. In this case, the truth is, "A stray dog keeps coming into my yard, knocking my child down, nipping at him and bothering my chickens." Yes, the dog is the neighbor's dog, but if it's on YOUR property, it's technically a stray. You don't have to tell them you know where it lives. Unless they ask, that is....
