:) Thanks everyone for your kinds words! Today we had a day of loud music and crazy lady screaming at me (I'm assuming it was at me as no one else was around.) Then she sat about 25 feet fro my chicken pen with her dog and her mentally handicapped brother. He is in his late forties and has the mental age of I would say about a 6 year old. I talk to him about the weather and my chickens. End of the summer my DH and I share our grapes and raspberries with him. He's a very nice person. He watches the chickens every day for hours. The saddest thing about this is taking my chickens away from him. But really it's not me is it... I'll miss talking to him.

Crazy lady and husband brought home two pick up truck loads of cheap stockade fence panels... Looked like 8 sections maybe?

After all the excitement today, at 6:30 three people showed up to help crazy lady's husband put up the fence. Before they came DH took pictures for our permit meeting and when crazy lady's husband saw us he jumped up on top of his fence panels and made a pretty obscene gesture at me. All I said was, "I'll remember you did that." I really want to call up the town and see if they have a permit... but DH says no. Let them put up their fence with no permit. That will make them look very bad..... plus if approved our fence will be 8 feet... we will not see their fence at all.

So they stopped working on the fence at 9:00...I think I counted 4 posts. There's a lot of rocks. They are putting the fence up on top of an old stone wall that was bulldozed 35 years ago. I guess her husband has never built a stone wall before. It doesn't start ground level.... there is probably a good foot of rocks below the surface. Have fun I say!!!!

I've just read the whole thread. Firstly, I feel so bad for you. I have two very polite and respectful neighbors. They love my chickens so much.
Next, I suggest you get some guinea fowls. Keep them in an enclosure with a ROOF--yes I learned the hard way.

Or get miniature donkeys. They are usually really nice, but every so often you hear HEE-hawww, HEE-hawww...
I hope you get the permit!
Get pictures of their fence. You could present those at the meeting! Now that I'd like to see.

:) Guinea hens!!!!! Crazy loud!!! It appears that my Blue Laced Red Wyandotte pullet... is a not a pullet after all. Here he is at 5 weeks. He is not crowing yet like Spock did at this age, but based on those wattles, it only a matter of time! My DH said, "Keep him!" But I don't know. He looks like he will be beautiful, but what if he is mean to Spock? Plus when I picked him up to take this picture he pecked me! Spock never did that!

Do I keep him? Our fence should be up before he starts crowing!

How many hens are in the flock again?

I think most people would say that a mean rooster isn't worth keeping. He is still young, though, and could just be scared.

Spock is a pretty nice guy.... he lives with 23 hens. He has never shown any serious aggression towards me or any of the hens. All but six of the hens are older than he is. He began living with them at about 8 weeks I believe. The new guy is with a group of 6 pullets. Here is Spock with most of his girls. The orange tape is the property line!

I'd play it by ear, they may all get along, but be ready to seclude him if there's trouble.
Do they live together now.....or separate coops....or?

I just moved the 5 week olds into the coop yesterday. But they have their own pen.... probably for at least another month and a half. Because of all the birdfeeders the crazy lady put up I saw a chicken hawk circling above the feeders, very low. Around here those kind of hawks seem to stick to doves etc. So until my chicks are bigger than a dove they will have to stay inside! Maybe by then I will know if the little roo will be aggressive with Spock..... but I am still on the fence about keeping him period based on my crazy neighbor. :(

Sounds like you have the facilities and time to decide....and other things to take up your mind time.

Just found this post and love it! I thought our neighbors were awful and keep telling the hubby we need to move further into the country with no neighbors but this poor lady takes the cake....almost sounds like Reds mother from the 70s show.....cant wait to hear what happens June 5th
