Neighbor Problems

I can't help but think that your neighbor may also think he has neighbor problems. I don't even want my chickens scratching in my flower beds let alone someone else's chickens.
Building a chicken run would solve your neighbor's problem. Fencing your yard solves everybody's.

I would also add a gate - with a chain to lock it - so that if YOU have to go next door it will be more convienant....but I wouldn't make it big enough for your neighbor to drive through!

Definatly do a cheap fence NO MORE EGGS NO MORE FIRE and especially NO MORE YARD DRIVING! and another thing to do is get about a dozen more roosters (as long as they are fenced to your side) He will probably love that. Im sure if he drove on your property to get to his back door a fence would be a major inconvenience to him GOOD! A couple of junk cars strategically place along the property line is something else I would do. And my wood pile would all of a sudden would be on the property line right about where he rutted up the yard. Also a couple of pounds of nails in his driveway an nite also works wonders. Boy i'm glad I dont have any neighbors.

My neighbors on both sides come onto our property and borrow things all the time. And....... they have no problem with stealing a chicken every once in awhile either. One neighbor to the south has about ten kids (about five families live there...so we have no idea which kids belong to which parents.) that are always throwing trash and wires onto our property. I'm going to get very mad if the wires get into my riding law mower.

A good fence is suppose to make good neighbors, but sometimes even that doesn't help.

I'm sorry you are having so much trouble with your neighbors.

Sorry for you but you will need to put up a fence. We have chickens, dogs, cats and dragons running all over the place and or neighboor is paying half for our fence on that side. We just have a nice neighboor and we will keep her supplied in eggs as well. But eggs are not they don't want them there so there isn't much else you can do!

Go on www.craiglist.com click on to your location and look under free and you may run into what you need or make a posting in materials and say we have chicks we need to keep off the neighboors property does anyone have any fencing we can have and pick up. Happy to swap eggs if you would like!

And you will be surprised. We got a dog cage, a huge one for our bull dog that thinks if we aren't there with her she should get to go anywhere she wants....down the street etc....

I feel really bad for you. My neighbors encourage my chickens to come to their house! They have a garden and called to make sure that what they planted was ok for my chickens to eat...they also call to see if the chickens can "come out and play" when their grandchildren are their, one with disablities. I guess I am lucky!!!!
I do agree with the fence though. I got that bright orange snow fencing to keep my kids from ridding their bikes down our hill for $30 for a huge roll. Good luck

I haven't read all the posts but I wouldn't send the letter to your neighbor. My DH has a saying, "when in doubt, don't." I agree with the others, a fence seems to be a solution. That way your neighbor can't burn on your property or use your yard as a walk-way. He sounds pretty insensitive if he made ruts in your yard and didn't offer to smooth them. On the other hand, I wouldn't want a neighbor's pet messing up my flower beds or garden. I'd say be pleasant and explain if asked why a fence is needed.
