This morning dh gets up and hears dogs outside. He thought they were our dogs and opened our bedroom door to look outside (we have a deck off our bedroom straight to the backyard) to see why they were barking.

My little boston terrier (all 18lbs of him) goes tearing out the door. Dh is like "OH ****, those aren't our dogs" and goes running. Apparently 3 large pit bull/boxer mixes from down the street decided to come check out our chickens!!!

It was soooo funny though, because our boston sent all three dogs running for their lives, despite the fact that they were all big enough to eat him in one bite. Seriously, they were HUGE dogs. No chickens were touched, it could have been bad because they were in a temporary coop while some work was being done.

My little terrier is pretty sure he is 10ft tall, and today he convinced them he was too. And I was cracking up watching dh chase my dog down the street in his pajama pants and no shoes, while the other dogs ran with their tails between their legs. I know, not really funny, but I just couldn't help myself.

A good dog is a great thing. And now the chickens are back in their nice secure coop, so we probably won't see the dogs again. My son knew who the dogs belonged to, and let them know that they were at our place today. They are generally good neighbors, and apologized and said they would check their fence today.

I would love to hear stories of how your great dogs helped save the day!!

My son did talk to the owners, and then helped them find where the dogs had gotten out. Luckily they are good people.

But living in the 'burbs without a physical fence means that dogs are always going to be a possible problem. Usually our dogs go in and out the doggie door in the mudroom, but the little guy fell asleep in our room that night, and the big girl is gettin' old these days, she's not as fast nor as alert as she used to be.

Sure glad he's not like my DH or he would have been running down the street in just his skivvies!!

I'm glad he took the time to put on the pajama pants first.
