Neighbor's cat getting into chickens! Help!!

This is the only cat in with the birds, coop is closed at night. This cat has gotten past the electric fence,the dogs,and has gotten a pardon from a .22 bullet. Like I said there hasn't been a problem since I trapped it as a kitten. Our birds free range, we provide a safe area with the electric fence and the dogs. We expect losses due to predators, so far they have been low.

I'm sorry this cat is killing your 8 week old birds.. But despite that.. You don't have a picture of this cat with the chicks all over it? That must be cute...

Maybe it wasn't the cat getting the birds? How are you sure? Just seems like if it is going to kill a bird, the smaller the more likely.

The cat is attracted to the heat of the lamp, I am surprised it hasn't killed any chicks yet but maybe this has something to do with being raised with them as a kitten, I would not allow the cat to get in with them but it sounds like you have grown quite fond of him.
As for cats attacking fully grown chickens I side with aoxa here, it is not common but there may be exceptions to the rule i.e small/weak/sick/lone chickens versus very large starving cats etc a well fed domesticated cat will rarely put itself in a position to get harmed by a fully grown chicken so in answer to the original poster if the cat is not harming your chickens ignore it, chances are it will get bored and move on, the chickens will also get used to it and begin to attack it, mine attack my own cat and any other cat that comes too close. I have no roosters in my flock and one is also a bantam, we have feral cats in the area but they are most active at night when my chooks are safely locked up though I am much more afraid of the fox than them purely because it has the size and strength to take on a fully grown chicken and be gone, a domesticated cat has not.

Where exactly can I see a video of a cat killing a full grown chicken, or duck?

same ive been looking i cant find anything either, i read cats dont have the design to take large prey only small animals rats, stoats, mice, reptiles things that are smaller than them by a decent amount.

The african wildcat is not a predator of larger animals prefers rodents and reptiles.

Unlike our dogs which came from wolves which are big game animals that will take down anything.

There is a roaming cat near my house that completely ate one of my naked neck pullets at around 4.5-5 months of age. She was nearly full grown. And yesterday I again found cat tracks in the snow around my coop. I have been trying to trap it, but have only gotten a coon. I am hoping my roo is now old enough(He's six months) to protect the flock! If I can trap it, I will either take it to the pound or shoot it. The latter option sounds most appealing right now, since the darn thing has already killed one of my birds.

how do you kno w it was the cat and not the coon? or a mink, hawk, fox, coyote, owl, stoat,

remember the saying curiosity killed the cat?


Also i know if something preys on a bird or trys to my cat goes after them its a territory thing. So if she saw something eating a chicken like a hawk she might go after it. Or try to bluff it.
