For the last year I've watched my Neighbors cat stalk my chicken runs. (I do not free range but I have very large runs) This cat slowly has gotten braver.I have found it on my runs, on my barn and in it several times. Now it has urinated in my feed room.

Soon I may have some chicks and Im a little worried about this cat.
I don't want to kill or maim it. But I would like it to vacate my barn.

Any ideas?

Maybe you could start by talking to your neighbor and asking them to keep their cat home? I don't worry about cats with my full grown, large fowl chickens, but wouldn't trust one with chicks. You may want to reconsider where you are keeping those chicks if you're worried about the cat getting to them. If a cat can get them, so could any other predator.

Do you have a garden hose? If not, how bout a good long range squirt bottle or super soaker squirt gun? If that does not work, and neighbors won't keep their cat home, you could set a live trap, then take it to the local pet shelter. Sounds tough, sounds mean. I love cats, but would not put up with a cat spraying in my feed room, or stalking my birds.

Its a sneaky cat, and I have rats and squirrels galore for him to chase. I only see him once in awhile .but I know he's around!

I wouldn't want cat pee in the tack room! Is it a tom cat? There's nothing quite like tom cat pee!
Otherwise, he's likely helping keep rodents down. Rats are not good to have!!!
Most cats will ignore big chickens, but would take little unprotected chicks. A broody hen will protect them, but otherwise they would be vulnerable. Rats will take out chicks too.
I would also talk to the neighbor, if you think it will help. If it's a roaming adult tomcat, the neighbor may not care one way or another.
I'd want to know that the cat is vaccinated for rabies, at least.
When I have a barn cat, I talk to my neighbors about it. They know that I'll take care of any issues that might come up, and that the cat has a job, is vaccinated, and that I'm responsible for her care.
