My friend has a hen at least eight years old. Her other chickens were picking on it so she brought it into the house. She will eat and drink but does not poop and can hardly walk. I have not seen the chicken, but she says it looks good and is alert and her breathing is good. She has trimmed the feathers of her bottom end and is keeping it clean. I'm thinking a tumor, but I hope not. Has anyone encountered anything like this with a good outcome. I told her she should keep her warm and comfortable and give her some wet food to help with the constipation(?) I'm new at this posting stuff so if I don't respond it's because I don't know what I'm doing. I just want to help her and her "baby". Thanks everyone!

It is hard to know for sure, but it sounds a little like she might be an internal layer, and possibly has a lash egg blocking her vent. Cancer could also be a possibility. I would place her in a pen or dog crate with her own food and water, preferrably in the coop with her flock, so she feels comfortable. Offer her fluids to drink and some chopped egg or rinsed canned tuna, in addition to her feed. Have her insert a lubricated finger into the vent to feel for any mass or egg, and to help her poop or pass the mass.
