Neighbor's chickens are freezing to death...it's really bothering me..

6chickens in St. Charles :

Have you talked with the chicken's owners yet? Rarely, it HAS happened that pets are left unattended because of tragedy to the family. Can you find out if the chicken's family is OK? It just feels strange to me that their pet has been freezing for days and you haven't seen the owner. They may be daft about pet care, true, but its a good enough reason to do a "wellness check" on the family belonging to the freezing pet.

Ya we see them go to work everyday. Their kids never go outside in the winter, ever. But my hubby will talk to them tomorrow cause by then their roo, Meanie Britches, will be in my garage.

Thank you for the lovely compliment honeydoll! Perhaps I have finally developed some tact! My mom will be glad to hear that! I’ve always been waaaay too outspoken! lol!

At least you tried to get the roo and I’m sure once you do get him chicken pot pie will go a long way in calming your DH!

Confession time: Today I had my hubby take out a critter that has been preying on my flock for the past couple of weeks. I’ve had 4 escape artists, aka chickens, go missing so something had to be done. I would have taken him out myself but DH is a better shot than I am but sometimes a gal’s gotta do what she’s gotta do! And even though this critter was disposed of and not eaten I will sleep just fine tonite knowing my flock is safer!

Can you invite them over to hang out under their rooster, see how long they can stand the cold? If the kids never go out in the cold, they can't possibly understand the cruelty to their animals which they have caused. I feel very, very sorry for you, inbetween a freezing chicken and his family. What cruelty they have wrought for you, as well.

Did you put on appropriate footwear to go out and help that bird???!!!???

us chicken people are morons

I understand this is frustrating, but there are some factors we do not know. Maybe he does not know how to care for them the right way. Or he has tried and they still choose not to sleep in the area provided. There is also the factor that if you feed your chickens treats or stratch that they do not get, they are smart and know were good food comes from.
I also have about 1/2 dz. birds that I can not get to stay in my coop at night even if I lock them in. Give the smallest chance to excaspe they do. I can spend hrs. chacing them from trees or barns with no luck. Sadley I have lost a couple.

I have considered all that. But I really don't see any effort of care from them anymore, but I also don't watch them, cause that'd be creeepy of me, so they may do more I really don't know.

Well, its true you don't want to seem creepy to the neighbors,

SO PUT ON APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR WHEN YOU GO OUT TO SAVE THAT BIRD! DON'T SLIP OR FALL, PLEASE!!!

Don't let them see your naked piggies up in the air and you hollerin' in the snow on your back "Help I've fallen and I can't get up!" you know that mean britches chicken would peck at you if you couldn't get away.......
