Neighbors dog attacked my chickens!

Is there any legal recourse that one can take against the neighbors who allow their dogs to get loose and cause this type of loss? I had 11 RIR and my neighbors dog just killed 9 of them. Any help would be great. I live in Tampa Fl.

It depends on the state what that recourse is - in Virginia damages are limited to $15/bird.


My suggestion is to talk to the neighbor, and tell them that the dog is not allowed on your property. I'd then put up a border fence, with electric wire at the top (NOT BARBED) -because I think that me spending a couple hundred dollars to fence is a better outcome than being in a feud with the neighbor over a shot dog. If the dog manages to get past that, then I'd shoot it.

just had a dog get into my chicken run and kill one of my r.i.r. and injure another. I had to get the dog out of my run and when i did it ran off,after checking my flock i noticed another r.i.r. was walking funny. After checking her i noticed a hole in her back, but otherwise she was o.k..I called animal control and they couldnt find the dog.The chicken that was killed was one my daughter hatched out. She is very upset and I hope that dog is found so the owner can be held acountable, theres a leash law in R.I. so that dog schouldn't be in my yard.very upset....

That's horrible . Before we got our chicks our neighbors dogs would always come down here and pee on everything. I was shooing one away and he tried to bite me My dog ( cane corso) grabbed him by his muzzle and didn't let go untill I was away from him. Haven't seen the dogs since. I think the neighbors we're probably mad but I don't care. Neighbors should make sure their dogs are kept on their property.

If it were my dog I would feel horrible if she did something like that to their animals.

same thing happened to us yesterday except it was the visitor of the neighbor next door. letting her dog run amuck through my yard...

my wife went nuts we went running out of the house and i saw the retriever shaking and grabbing our chicken and running through yard we were screaming, the wife was swearing like a mad woman. we love our chickens and we trained our dogs, their dogs our cats to all get along with the chickens took months. the dog was running and everyone was chasing he finally dropped chicken and she flew and hid we could not find her for two hrs. **** lady did not apologize neither did neighbor or even ask if henrietta was ok. she is mauled no feathers down her back and has several bite marks . we washed her with peroxide and put neosporin on she seems fine but i am worried it is going to get infected. *** any advice would be appreciate. thanks annie those people hate us for no reason think cause we are gay, and we are not hanging their pictures in our locker either however some people should not have animals. they still let their dogs come in yard now my jack russell is attacking them to protect her chickens. its crazy just want to live in peace.

See if you can find Bannix at your feed store or Tractor Supply. It's a topical spray that can be used on all animals. I've used it on my dogs and chickens. It's usually in the horse section. $10 for a nice-sized bottle and heals even the nastiest injuries. Vets use it on amputation wounds even.

The way things are going these days, they won't leave until someone or something is shot.

Animal Control can usually do something to at least get you compensated if you have to take her to the vet. They can draft a complaint from you that will stand up in court. I had this happen to me years ago when a neighbor's dog killed 12 of my birds in one fell swoop. Because I didn't SEE the dog do it or have evidence, they told me I could only ask the neighbor for compensation. I got nothing....not even an apology. But YOU have WITNESSES.
