Im sorry to hear about your ducks.
If that was me I would of shot the dog..end of story. If it killed MY livestock, yep you betcha I would of, and I would of called Animal Control after the deed was done.

Dogs often have accidents when they misbehave. They very often die of lead poisoning when they kill livestock. At least that's what happens sometimes.

So sorry to hear about your ducks, definitely file a complaint... its not that hard for people to control their dogs...

That dog might get one stay of execution but more then episode and hed be taking a dirt nap.

Here is what I did with the stupid neighbor's dog because of attacking my chickens.......

Called Animal Control each time the dog came to my house. Had the dog picked up and taken to the pound, the owners had to pay a fine and bail him out 2 times. Finally ended up in court. BIG fine, $250. The dog stayed home for a while, then the cycle started all over again ! Started calling the Animal Control again (we are now on first name basis

). The dog was again picked up on 2 different occassions. Another trip to court. Another big fine, $350.

Again the dog stayed home for a while..... Then the cycle started again

When I caught the dog this time, a different Animal Control officer came to my house to pick up the dog. He contacted the owners to give them their next court date and inform them how much the fine would be......

They turned the dog over to the county when they found out the fine would be $1000. Thank God ! It only took 14 months, but, now all the neighbors realize that I MEAN it when I call them up and ask them to come get their wandering pooch and MAKE SURE he doesn't come back.

Oh, I forgot to mention that in the process, 4 chickens were killed. All of them Marans, from eggs that I had shipped to me and hatched. When I explained to the judge the price of the eggs, the shipping and how much feed it took to get them to almost egg laying age, he determined that the hens were worth $40 bucks apiece

And the Animal Control officer also informed me that if the chickens had only been wounded, I would have been completely within my rights to take the chickens to the vet and sue for cost of treating them for their wounds. If they died after being treated, then the dog owner would have been responsible for the vet care and the cost of the chickens.

Went out to feed my flock and check on my injured ducks this morning. I was able to put 1 of the ducks back out with the flock, but the more injured one isn't any better and I kept the other duck in to keep her company. The injured duck still can't walk, but I don't feel any broken bones. This is the one that the dog had in his mouth. None of the Harlequins are eating. I hope they start back soon. I did move them into a pen next to the chicken coop far away from the duck pen until I can fix their fence where it can't be dug under. I have my son who is a engineer student at Georgia Tech work on that. I figure He could use some of that education we're paying for. A friend suggested burying razor wire under the fence and my DD had a friend, who's Italian, tell her She could make the dog disappear that she had connections.

Be careful "making dogs disappear". While it is legal to shoot a dog that is injuring you birds, it is not legal to just destroy someone's dog.

In the country we call it SSS, shoot, shovel, shut up. However, SSS is not legal either...... that is why we shoot, shovel and SHUT UP.

I think it is time to electrify the fence and give the dog a good jolt.
