Neighbor's dog keeps nosing around...

I was thinking of a picket fence to keep the dogs out. If that isn't possible they why not an electric fence? I have one for my horses. It's not expensive and it doesn't look bad. You wouldn't have to put it very high at all. Just string the fencing a few inches above the ground where the dogs can't go under it and just high enough where the dogs can't go over it. I use the solar unit. This way I don't have to worry about extention cords. The solar unit was a bit pricey at $117.00 at Lowes Home Improvement store a couple of years ago. I don't think it's gone up much. I bought the ribbon but there is also a cord that looks nice. It shocks the dogs just enough to make them cry and go home. Lets just say I have 3 dogs and 2 of them won't go under the fencing. I've always heard that fences make good neighbors........ lol.

Dont throw them towards the chickens!

How 'bout a shotgun loaded with rock salt or peppercorns? Pepper the dog's rear end... Should sting and hurt like heck, but shouldn't kill the dog or wound it badly. That's what my dad did on the farm YEARS ago. Otherwise, I'd say paintball, if you don't want to put the dog out of your misery.

I must admit, I've never tried it myself. Only dog that attacked my chickies also tried to kill my Shepherd and me, so I was working on a more permanent solution, so to speak.

To your neighbor:

"Here are some eggs, we may have gotten off on the wrong foot but I hear there are XXX (things that kill dogs) around and I'd hate for (dog's name) to get hurt. Also please know that animal control has already been in the area twice, one on Tuesday and again on Thursday if they find him loose they will take him. I think they are investigating that lady down the road (with nuisance animals). Although it bothers me that he harasses my animals and fouls my yard I know you wouldn't want anything to happen to him."

Then call animal control from a public phone next time he's out... he's "At Large and Menacing"

simple put one strand electric fence wire around the coop down at ground level use 5 inch kick out insulators and then get some tin foil make it into squares say 4 x 4 and smear peanun butter on em and em from the fence you do this the dog will nose the foil zing and it will never come back trust me it works...

Verify what the leash laws are in your area. Once you have confirmed that there ARE leash laws, and dogs are not allowed to be at large, call the neighbor and firmly say, "XXX, you need to keep your dog out of my yard. Letting it run off your property is illegal. It messes in my yard daily, and scares my properly contained birds. I've spoken to you about this before, and been ignored. I do not want to call animal control, but if you will not contain your dog I will. I am not asking you for a favor; I am insisting that you obey the law."

I would just get rid of the dog. If an owner lets their animals run loose I would be suprised they do not know that their pets can kill or be killed. Contacting owners with concerns and complains only puts YOU on their radar when their pet is injured, killed,or missing. They will blame YOU even if you had nothing to do with it.People get crazy over their pets, and I have read of neighbor disputes that have led to people being shot. Not worth it.Just get rid of any problem animals just like you would a coon.

Hold it right there--------no need to do the puppy poo toss when the neighbor's dog does his business on your lawn. Just dribble a little bacon grease on the lawn-mines and the dog will clean up his own mess on his next visit.

As for the chickens----a single electric hot wire run with pieces of aluminum foil wrapped around peanut butter or other sniff-able items will educate the varmint.
