If the dog kills a chicken, call animal control and file a complaint, then present the neighbor with a bill for said chicken. Figure into the price, the cost of eggs lost.

If the pup fits in a live trap I would trap it and take it to an animal shelter 50 miles away like D.DIva said...


I assume you are in a city and SSS is not a choice. I know it is frowned on many here, some have said they would hate to have me as a neighbor, (does not bother me), I will protect my birds right to wander my land to the NTH degree. BTW I have never done SSS on the first visit or second even,,,

Hi, Yikes...finally got around to my replies. All wonderful answers. Yours is the first to respond. I found yours really interesting...I live actually in the country with Amish neighbors 5 minutes away. With that, people feel since they live out here they can just let their dogs roam freely without any kind of supervision. I encounter several and confronted them nicely and it never became an issue and they took responsibility for their dog and the relationship with still remained very friendly. But for some reason THIS particular neighbor and his new wife ( who by the way does not like me ) just ignored everything. Long story...semi-short...his dog ran onto my property and straight into the back where my chickens are and I just happened to be right there along with my dog. My dog spent after his and pinned his dog down ( No violence/ fighting ) and stayed there until I approached. Now here comes my neighbor and I let my famous Italian temper LOSE on my neighbor, gave him one last chance and next time I would call the authorities and the dog would be taken away since it has already killed 2 of my chickens. After that my neighbor placed an electric fence around his property. I am So relieved that he finally became a responsible pet owner. I hated that I had to lose my temper like that but after SO MANY conversations and nothing. I finally had to start making the steps to protect my pets. Glad I was finally heard this time. Let's hope neighbor keeps the electrified fence working. Have to keep weeds etc away from fence poles etc. and charger working. He may have it up just for show.
