Galaxie - you remind me of my dh. That's what he looked like just yesterday. We have a new neighbor who can't keep control of their rottweiler. He has been up several times and is running loose during the wee hours of the night as well. This is not our only problem with this new neighbor (they have trespassed with their friends and dumped a truckload of stone on our property to make a parking pad). Needless to say, we had the cops there to get the stone cleaned up and warn them about the trespass and the dog a few times. We were trying to be civil but they just don't care.
Then yesterday the dog was up here again. My husband chased it down with the gun and went to the neighbor and said this is your last warning..next time it's being put down. They have already been told by the state police that we have the right to shoot their dog and apparently they don't care. Now, we are animal lovers and really don't want to do this, but to protect my farm, our dd and my dogs, we certainly will on the 3rd strike.
It really is a shame that some dog owners don't do the right thing by their animals. The poor dog doesn't know any better and will suffer because of the ignorant owners. Sometimes this is the only way to deal with the situation, as hard as it may be.
