Neighbors Dogs Advise

Just as your chickens are your responsibility to protect, you have a responsibility not to let these strays bother your neighbours animals as well if you can do something about it. Scaring them off just sends them elsewhere....

No, I've never heard of EF causing seizures, but if an animal was prone, and got a zap to the head, it's not a far fetched assumption. what did the vet say? My guess is that if there was going to be a seizure associated with a fence, it would happen right away. I do know that the medical field is returning to the use of "shock therapy" to treat certain mental conditions, supposedly with good results.

I had to drop Brinley off at vets yesterday bc I had to go to work.... I did ask about EF and they kind of dismissed it...most of the things I've read says that sezuires usually happen a few hours afterwards.... The EF did get his head area, he had a welp around neck..., he kinda got caught up in it and was flipping and yelping, it was horrible.... Boston's are known for having sezuires but he's been healthy as a horse for 5 yrs... I was just curious.

I'm so sorry about your pup, that must have been traumatic to watch, I hope he's OK.

Thank you, he had another one this morning, outside in the mud.... Then was so disoriented he scooted across our pool cover.. I about died, thank god it held him up... I was screaming like a wild woman, I know our neighbor was like WTH.... It took my daughter and I both to get him inside... It's awful. I feel for anyone who has to go through this....

My DH is sooo mad at me and himself bc we watched him get shocked!! But I read where he prob would have started having them when he got older, regardless of shock. Who knows, it's just something we have to live with now.... It sucks but what da ya do...

Quote: Oh Geez....my dog has seizures too they are mild and short, but still every time it happens I wonder if he will die....lost another dog to similar mild seizures years ago.
Hang in there.

Our last dog had seizures from the time he was about a year old (first time was out duck hunting with DH - he had to hold the dog's head up to keep him from drowning). I finally asked the vet what we could do about it since they got worse as he got older. We got a prescription for... I think it was phenobarbitol (I could be wrong on that - I don't remember for sure) and the dog lived the last several years of his life seizure free. The meds were inexpensive - about $10 a month. Far cheaper than having to continually clean my carpet due to incontinence while seizing. We were able to get his meds from the pharmacy. Cheaper there than from the vet.

Yes, they suggested phenobarb for my other dog, but they were so mild and infrequent I passed on the meds.

That's good to know.... He is suppose to call me in a few, so hopefully they can give him meds..... Glad pheno is cheap!!! I just can't take watching this go on... Thank y'all for info... :) ... I feel better knowing im not the only one who is coping with this.

Dakota's were mikd and infrequent at first, but worsened as he got older. By the time we put him on meds, it was at least once a day, and two or three right on top of each other. I was afraid I'd wake up so e morning and find him dead.
