My dog started going nuts so I let her out. She went straight for the coop. Thats when I saw two dogs inside the penned area. But everything was closed shut! How? I thought I had them trapped but they got ou. Not sure how yet. But the golden retriever had a chicken in his mouth. And the other dog (a boxer) left. The retriever then came back in for for more. DUMB! I couldn't believe it! What a massacre! I quickly ran in and pushed him into the brooder and locked it. He was in the position of jumping up to get another bird. That's when I saw the sheet metal pulled apart! Dogs! Really? I was surprised! I called the Animal control. Who came and told me to take pix. Many of my birds lay dead, while many more were missing. My guineas were gone but 4 came back. All my turkeys were gone! Dragged away in the woods I gather. I keep my birds out to free range during the day and lock them up at night. My neighbor came over and took pictures. He suggested to my husband that it was our fault because we had guineas. The nerve! He called me yesterday and wants to take more pictures! WHY? Hubby says NO! I took pictures myself, Should I send those to him? So sad!!!!

Sorry about the attack and the loss.

My suggestion is that if you are going to take any kind of legal action you say nothing to the neighbor and give the neighbor nothing. Also don't let the neighbor on your property until it is all settled.

If you aren't going to take legal action then do what seems right to you.

No I would not let him come over and take more pics. The only thing I would send him is a bill for your loss. Especially for his attitude and comments he made about your guineas!

What did Animal Control recommend? I might call the (non-emergency) police line as well and see what they say. What are the livestock laws in your area in terms of that?

Telling you that it's your fault b/c you have guineas is RIDICULOUS and IMO, there's no reason for him to come back and take more pics. He's lucky you let him at all and I don't understand why he even needed/wanted to. Meanwhile, I'd look around for injured or scared birds as well, just in case there are some hiding out that did make it.

I'm sorry. :-(

The neighbor needs to learn to confine his dogs, and pay for your birds. Its not your fault that his dogs came onto your property. Tell your neighbor the next time you catch them killing your animals they will disapear. personally take them to the pound if you have to. And put up a good electric fence around your chickens and keep everything penned up during the day from now on. They will be back.

How awful. I'm so sorry.

I am so glad I have really good (and not real close) neighbors.

I think you've done all the right stuff so far. I wouldn't give the neighbor anything right now. Nor would I let them take pics. You certainly owe them nothing...and right now we hate them. In this day of photoshop, who knows what they might look like when he's done. His intent will be to try to get his dogs off the hook.

Again...so sorry
