Neighbors dogs in coop. UPDATE! 2nd time. 911/charges/court today

I have to admit that some of those people are real idiots. Especially the lady who sued for babysitting her own grandchild. I'd give anything to see mine. Many times I'd like to bang my head against the wall.

I live in the country and there is a leash law even out here. I have constant issues with neighbors dogs attacking my girls because the dog owners feel it's their "right" to let the roam (hey, there is a leash law). The Sheriff told me to shoot them. No courts, just country justice.

ive been following this thread since day one, it broke my heart to see your pics, brought back memories of when i was a child and somebody's dog kept getting my sweet bunnies at night, I'm in my late 30's and i still tear up thinking about it, it was my first real taste of heartbreak, you see, ive never had many human friends and that summer the one friend i did have moved to Germany leaving my profoundly sad and lonely, i would lay awake at night listening, listening for any noise that might suggest that "the dog" was back trying to kill the rest of my bunnies, i ran that dog away so many nights, did my best to be vigilant, i tried i really did, then one night (Christmas eve) we went to grandma's house and didn't come home until late/early morning, when we did finally come home i went to the carport to check on my bunny and he was gone, the hutch was wreaked and my poor bunny was gone! you cant imagine the guilt i felt, here i was having a great time with family while my poor sweet bunny was being ripped limb from limb, nothing on earth could console me, not Christmas, not toys, not candy, not anything! i really do wish people would consider the effects their actions have on others, unfortunately many people don't, i think that's why i still don't have many human friends, truly good people are few and far in between, and i count myself lucky for the ones i have.

Boy that made me real sad. I hope things are better for you now. And I want you to know that although we are not in eachothers presence we are all human creatures and God made us social creatures. That is why we are here on this forum. Thanks for your post.

You know, you could train YOUR dogs? While other people's dogs I do not mind taking to the pound or other things, with your own dog, if your dog(s) KILLS the birds, it is YOUR fault. YOU let the dog out, YOU forgot to close the coop, YOU forgot to do something that allowed the birds' lives to be in the mouth/hands of the dog! Accident OR not! It is your fault. When my dogs kill my birds (rescues), It is MY fault.

You should socialize them to the new birds.
Just like you don't just put a toddler on the floor with your dog for the first time without fully socializing, I don't think you should do the same thing with birds.
I've been there (Oh, that's Sam, he loves kids!). I got mauled by the Family-Friendly dog. A little training and more time spent and the dog didn't maul kids anymore (I was a toddler... 3 years)

Dustbunny.........sooooo very sorry for your childhood loses. I can feel your pain for you. When I was abt 12 I had a miserable old man neighbor and he hated my tabby cat. One day we found her on the door stoop looking like she'd been whacked on the head. Yes, I've always blamed him....no matter.
It's not the NUMBER of friends you have, but rather the type of friends. I keep about 6 very close friends and multiple associates. With the exception of a few and family, I sometimes feel animals are my best friends.
Hang in there !

Oh my what a tragic thing to go through as a little 3 yr old. So sorry for that.

I have a 6 and 7 year old and all my pets have been a blessing around them. Thankfully, my Great Dane Precious and the Basset Sally, are very well socialized to respect the birds. In fact the birds fly over the fence to be near the dogs for protection when the dogs go outside. The dogs could care less that they are there, But when a hawk approaches the dogs jump up as if to catch one in mid air. I hope Precious will someday get that opportunity.
The only animals I have to worry about where the dogs are concerned are the 4legged kind. I had a pair of pigmy goats. All she wanted to do was eat them. She likes to chase and eat rabbits. So I eventually got rid of the goats for their own good.

Anyway your suggestions are great! I am taking them and all the suggestions on this site to heart. THANKS!

ya i just still get sore when i think about how irresponsible people can be when it comes to their dogs, I'm so sorry your neighbor is a poop, I'm pretty lucky to have such great neighbors now, most of us have birds/livestock and work together, we have a very nice community, we trade birds, eggs, fresh goat milk, veggies ect. better late than never i guess, maybe your dodo head neighbor will move after this i hope
