Neighbors dogs in coop. UPDATE! 2nd time. 911/charges/court today

It's still good to report it, in case anything else turns up in the mailbox. I would make a copy of it but still show the postmaster.

If both letters are hand written and there is a common word or a few common words most judges will look at the two letters and do a visual comparison. I had a judge do that in a case. The judge even compared it to a sample of hand writing known to be that person's. Judge ruled that it was the same person who wrote it.

Precious caring for the Ducklings....

We do have a fence. My son went out the front door.....But have been taking every precaution for this never to happen again,

Especially because we want the trouble to end. My dogs are not "allowed" to run loose. But his dogs are. It just seems that the rules don't apply to other people. Like I said before..Roles reversed I would (and have) paid. I also put down the dog. Precious is SUPER SWEET! And a great dog. She IS very obedient. Its just that sometimes she goes into

"gotta get that rabbit" mode.

If she sees an opportunity she will try to take it. She and Sally are a work in progress. God Bless.

OOOOOHH !!!! I love that spotted baby cow you are calling a Dane !!! LOL She's beautiful. We used to have Danes too....loooonggg ago ! Sally and your son are also cute.
To the person that doesn't think a dog can rip up the sheet metal.....you should have seen one of my chainlink dog runs one time. I had a Std Poodle in season in it and let my male Standard out in the fenced in yard. Went to check on them and he had gone nuts and had just about ripped out a corner of chainlink. He only weighed about 75 #. If he could do it then other dogs could too. Amazing what they can do when there's something they are after.
Good luck with your problem and neighbor that neighbor from Hell.

Where does your son fit in the pack? It sounds like he is beneath the dog, if the dog went through the door without permission. Just a thought. Does your son work with him on those simple comands and feed the dog? I have learned, with our rescued German Shepherd, that they are like little kids. They need permission to do simple things like going outside only with permission. Just opening the door and letting him go if he wants to, he gets to acting like he's an adult and can do what ever he likes. He's not mean or aggressive but more like rude. He's so much more likeable with manners. I hope that all made sense.

I think you are getting on the defensive... don't let other's who never met you get to you. The internet is bad about that. Stop, breathe.

Accidents happen. Dogs bust loose, dig out, dig in. The true issue here is that the neighbor who has the dogs who got in and killed your chickens is being a ____ and won't pay for it. You could go through courts, but this is becomming a old issue, if I'm not mistaken. There are time restraints on these things... plus the longer you wait the more complicated it will get. Local small town judges are not at all the same as larger city judges or state judges. They just simply don't have the experience or sometimes they just don't care. This can hurt or help you depending on the situation.

You can file a report for damaged property with the cops... and you will be given a court date. Doesn't mean he will pay for it. Just means he would be told to.

Best thing, and I mean this with sincerity... take out a loan if you have to and fence the property. I have all sorts of critters, and I live next to a human time bomb. She literally gets two crazy checks and has a anger management issue. On top of that information, she is a dog hoarder. They are unhealthy, inbreeding... and in my opinion very mistreated. I live in the county. Laws are very relaxed here... there aren't any building codes even. Point is, until her dog acctually KILL my chickens, I can't do anything about her or her dogs. Free roaming or not.
I guess I'm telling you this, because sometimes the best medicine is preventative. I'm sorry your birds had to go like that. I truely am. I would be horrified. I don't think you will ever get money out of him. You can try, but you'll just have to go through all sorts of hoops and legal battles. I think it would be much easier and less stressful route if you just let it go. Yes, let it go. When you catch his dogs out and free again... call them over. If they are tame enough... grab their collar. Tie them up. Then, you can do one of two things. You can make them come over and get their dogs from you everytime it happens AND document everytime it happens for future cases against them. (pictures, dates, and times) or you could haul the dogs to a no kill shelter... because to be honest, dogs shouldn't be put to death for having bad owners IMHO.

I hope it works out for you. I just am a realist and don't think you'll get money out of it. And on top of that, you'll just get ulcers trying to fight it.

Good luck!

I don't know about this. If I woke up to find a strange GREAT DANE in my yard, I'd be pretty ticked too. It's not like we're talking about a stray cat, more like a miniature horse with teeth that can chomp your arm off. Not saying your dog is vicious, but if it were me and a Dane showed up in my yard I'd be pretty darn upset about it.

I don't care if it got out accidentally. I don't care if it's the first time I've seen it out. I don't know that it's a family dog that just barreled past the kid who opened the door. All I know is that there's a dog that's half as big as my truck tearing up my yard. Yep. Annoyed doesn't even begin to describe it.

If you are going to file a lawsuit about someone else's dog running, You had BETTER keep your own under lock and key!!!!

If there's one thing I can't stand it's a double standard.

but sad to see it go! i love danes ! i have excapee dogs show up all the time , things hapen they are dogs and no matter how well trained you think your dog is or if you think he's bottom of the pack and "never"goes out with out permition HE'S A DOG . it only takes one oportunity. i watched a dog that had been a well trained asistance dog for many years run infront of a car when a bird swooped down infront of her face and across the road. she snaped at it and ran off after her (never in her entire life had she EVER done anything like that befor)luckily she servived . sometime training doesnt overcome instinct OR silly doggy tacticks like running out an open door!

Thanks Guys. I guess I am getting a bit defensive. I really should be on the offensive with the neighbor. Taking a step back now to look at the broader picture. Going to see what the cost would be to electrify the fence that is already up. It surrounds the entire property. When a dog wants in it will get in. Maybe an electric detterent is just the thing. As for the neighbor, I will let you all know what goes on as it happens. Thanks for all your support and suggestions and positive critisizm
