Neighbors dogs in coop. UPDATE! 2nd time. 911/charges/court today

I agree I am dealing with a dog problem myself right now but the wife won't let me shoot ot kill she asked me one what if someone shot our dog cause he broke free and ran loose before we had a chance to find him and tie him up?

So think of it that way now as for the guy in this problem I say shoot him and the dogs but hey that's just me....Really though I would take him to court to at least have him replace my birds and coop but I would dang sure put a hot wire around it and some bear traps where they got in at cause that will be the area that they will go to again then I would tell him next time I shoot to kill... A broke leg is better then a dead dog with an owner like him.

Your not gonna believe this one.....But my 6 year old let the dog out (Great Dane) She barreled right over him when he was going out to play and she took off after a rabbit into the woods. Thank heavens mom was home so I could get in my car and chase after her. I did not stop until she was back inside.
BUT THE NEXT DAY, I find a hand written letter. No return address or stamp. Not even signed. It was just placed there. In it he wrote....Dear Stupid Neighbor....

If I find your "Great Dane" in my garden again I will call animal control..That is all it said. But I am even madder that he went into my mail box. (Gov Prop.)
Before this I was going to chalk it off to experience. But not anymore. Hubby is livid!

So I have decided he is getting a certified letter stating if payment is not made in 10 days, On the 11th day court papers will be filed along with pictures and the report from animal control. I AM DONE!

It's against federal law to put anything in a mailbox without postage, like those advertising flyers etc., but creapo neighbor also. Boy, I hope you nail him good.

I have killed dogs before that go after my birds.. I understand the whole dog getting loose, but people need to take responsiblity for there dogs, and bird owners have to take all measures to protect there birds... even if that means killing dogs...

I don't know about this. If I woke up to find a strange GREAT DANE in my yard, I'd be pretty ticked too. It's not like we're talking about a stray cat, more like a miniature horse with teeth that can chomp your arm off. Not saying your dog is vicious, but if it were me and a Dane showed up in my yard I'd be pretty darn upset about it.

I don't care if it got out accidentally. I don't care if it's the first time I've seen it out. I don't know that it's a family dog that just barreled past the kid who opened the door. All I know is that there's a dog that's half as big as my truck tearing up my yard. Yep. Annoyed doesn't even begin to describe it.

If you are going to file a lawsuit about someone else's dog running, You had BETTER keep your own under lock and key!!!!

If there's one thing I can't stand it's a double standard.

Make sure you keep the letter with all the other items you would bring to court with you. My DH would probably not think and be so mad he would rip it up into a bazillion pieces, lol.

Wow, does everyone think people have some kind of psychic control over their dogs???? Do you have that much control over your chickens if they escape????? If I caught a bunch of chickens in my garden eating my food we would be having chicken for dinner that night; and I would not care who's chickens they were.

Dog owner should pay for damages to chickens and coop and so on..... chicken owner needs to have better control over her dog.

End of story.

No double standard. 3 years ago I too had a yellow lab who got out and killed another neighbors chickens. I put her down and paid every penny the owner asked for. No questions asked. It was the right thing to do.
As for my dog getting out. I went and got her.I didn't wait until she felt like coming home.I did not wait for her to create havoc. I waisted no time in getting her back right away.

I did not purposely let her out in the morning to run loose in the neighborhood as my neighbor allows his dogs to do. As for the owner knowing she got out. I was calling her name to come home. He is within earshot and she did not run over to his house. I picked her up out front by the road on the opposit end of the house. Irregardless.

An accident is quite different than on purpose.
Breezy sending you my #

I hate what happened to your chickens. MY NEIGHBORS LAB DUCK DOG. My neighbors dog broke his chain and crippled my rooster, and kidnapped a hen, within the first two weeks we got them. I followed the lab home, with my hen in his mouth, like his prized duck. I had the owner catch the dog. He dropped my hen. I then wrung the hens neck right there, in front of the neighbors family. Asked if they could dispose of that, and left. The next day I dropped off a heavier chain, tie down, and collar. My neighbor apologized, and I mentioned accidents only happen once. No more problems. Now I get duck and striper filets and he recieves eggs. Sometimes it works out.
And pshyic control no, but total control yes. Yes my dog drops on command, heels, etc. all no leash, all with no delay, she would never bolt out a door, touch food without being released. Haliey dog, boxer, a resuce dog that scavenged for everything. I am the alpha here and even the woodland creatures behind the house know it.
