Trying to raise chickens is a tough business when trying to please neighbors. Unless everyone has chickens or something along that line then no one will be happy. The chicken issue is just more fuel for bad relations between neighbors. When dogs get involved poor situations escalate to bad. If a property owner decides to take a stand for what is theirs by enforcing dog control ordinances already on the books the fuse is essentially lit. Always try to talk to involved parties first to resolve issues. Document! Time, Date conversations and information discussed. It will always be a matter of he said / he said, but if you have your stuff in order, a court of law looks to organized documentation as reliable.

Good idea!

I can just about GUARANTEE this is NOT a good idea.
ETA regardless of your intentions, if you show up on your neighbor's doorstep with gun in hand, he and any member of his family can press charges against you for harassment or intimidation, and depending upon your state's laws, possibly even assault although you may not even touch him or any member of his family. Leave your gun at home. Better yet, stay home WITH your gun and only use it as a last resort if his dog shows up on your property again. If you stay within your rights, you won't have to worry about poor judgment and rash decisions coming back to bite you on the behind later... I hope you get your situation resolved soon.

Small claims court is a deffinate way to go! Especially if the neighbor is a city type guy. In texas if you can show that the animals were for sale/eggs/meat/breeding for the purpose of sale etc... you can also sue for the loss of future sales and money. I know a friend had to pay $3000 For a breeding pair of Burgandy Turkeys. The owner claimed they were the beginning of his turky business. I know his family! They were for thanksgiving!!!!! BUT any way the law sided with him and the friend had to pay up! I hate that people can be this way! It's the world we live in now. Personally, I shoot any dog bothering my animals! Including my own. It is not easy!!!!! But I will not tollerate a dog that kills for fun! I have told my DW that when I put the new birds out, If our 2 dogs go after them..... POW!! I will give them a chance but only 1. I have an electric fence around the pen and they will be locked up at night. BUT......

Good Luck and God Bless!

P.S. Get 3 bids for repairs to everything they destroyed ( NO cheap Fixes! Top quality products only!!!). and find some people to give you estimates for the replacement birds at least 3 bids!!! LOTS of pics!!!!!

Over the weekend my neighbors siberian husky killed my RIR rooster. He came back onto my property a while later and I threw as many rocks at it as I could. I was surprised at my terrible aim.

I know this sounds silly... but does it matter what you shoot it with?

I have a 9 mil pistol but no shotgun. I have a very good aim with it.

Would it be ok to shoot a neighbors dog with that? LOL

I burried the rooster in the back of my 6 acre property. My plan was that if I found this dog any where near my coop or free ranging hens again I would grab my pistol and shoot it, bury it next to my rooster and never speak a word of it. If the neighbor came a knocking I'd just say I haven't seen him around (not a lie since I haven't seen him since he was burried). My only concern would be that the guys vet talked him into getting one of those GPS locators in case the dog ever ran off. My vet isn't a good salesman and was never able to convince me to fork out that kind of money on my dog... but you never know about his!

The only way to beat the GPS is to wrap the entire body in foil. They usually put it in the neck. BUT it could be any place....BUTT, neck, back, shoulder...etc Gun don't matter! Start target shooting now! That way when you shoot the dog pop off several extra rounds! Then just say nope havent seen him. I was just target practicing. Then take him off some place far away and dump him in a river for the catfish. Or wrap the entire body in foil LOL and bury...

Good Luck and God Bless!

landfill? that's where animal control told me to take my neighbor's dog when they didn't want to pick it up after hubby shot it for killing my Ameraucana roo. I wasn't about to waste the energy to bury her chicken killing husky.

Those GPS locators are attached to a collar. They are very easy to spot and remove, they look like shock collars.

The chips that go under the skin are RFID chips that only work with special reader a few inches away.
They only give an ID number for data base look-up.

Gee if the dog slipped out of the gps collar and it ended up on some stray dog, cat, etc- the so and so owner would be running all over the place trying to close in on him. just sayin' Tho I don't think he cares one bit where his dog is, or where he goes. That frees you up to take dog to animal shelter or whatever.
