Glad to hear he was finally caught.
Get a copy of the police report and the animal control report. It shows he is a liar and will come in handy if you take him to small claims for the other birds.
Been following... glad to hear that he was punished. Accidents happen sometimes, but this guy was a real son of a .......
I can't believe his nerve! Glad you husband was there and stood his ground when he tried to get his dog. I have a simular neighbor. I haven't lost a bird, but I have lost cats and I think the neighbor herself steals my eggs. Explain 9 from one flock day after day, and then 0 the next with the egg door jimmied. I guess I'm supposed to be a idiot.
Well, congrats again! I hope he goes his own way and keeps his dogs on his property. Good luck in the future!
Glad to see someone hitting a bad pet owner where it really hurts - the wallet! I hope others see this and keep in mind that it is always your right to sue fro damages caused by someones dog or whatever.
Ok. Ive read this entire thread. Glad to hear you won your case. People like that need to be more responsible for thier pets actions. What I want to know is, what happened to the dog? Did the sheriff take the dog? Did they give it back to the owner and fine him? Do they understand next time the dog will come up missing<hint, hint> Just wondering.
Did you get a fair amount of damages? Yeah... good job folks... You are my heros.. I have followed this thread the whole way and I am still following th eone about stolen horse... It goes to court finally tomarrow.. kudos to you folks that hold wrongdoers accountable.... Yay!!!!
I hope you get a nice bator or something cool to help with the emotional loss.
Well, thanks for all your support and good wishes! So far we haven't heard anything from the neighbor or his dogs.
My chickens (Whats left of them) are all doing well. The trauma seems to have faded.
As for your questions about court.
The county won. He paid the max fines, court costs, and his lawyer.
I personally want to sue them and sue them now! The problem is funding. Since the loss we are at a catch 22. The court wants $175.00 just to file.
I know that doesn't seem like much to most. But I have my adorable 7 and 8 year old boys and the critters that are left plus the basset and the great dane. They come first.
But I am going to see what the statute of limitations are on this so I can find a way before then.
As for his dogs....The county let him keep them. That is all I know. I am happy that I haven't seen them anywhere.
My other neighbors keep asking me where my two dogs have been because they enjoyed seeing them. My other neighbors let their dogs run free around here. But these are all farmers with livestock like myself. So problems with losing livestock from these dogs are non-exhistant. But my dogs are under lock and key and constant supervision.
Silver lining is I actually took them for a walk around the block. Turned out to be 4 miles!!!!
he has learned a leason. I am happy to hear he did have to pay fines and regret that they were not paid to you. When you do sue him you can recoop (haha) the 175.00 filing fee. 4 miles
is a bit long for me no way I would not have made that one.
