Neighbor's Dogs Killed 18 Chickens

dogs can't come and kill more chickens, duh...

owners obviously have no intention of controlling their beasts.

plus it sends a strong message to other neighbors with dogs...control/contain them, or else.

there was a time in america when men understood this.

Dogs are if haven't already going back to Georgia. I don't think they'll be coming back either way.
Since when did god program dogs to kill for sport like that? Oh ya god didn't program them and in fact didn't even create dogs. Red blooded potent man created dogs and the behaviors like this they display.
Killing and grinding them up does sound macho but I've found usually when people talk about over the top macho stuff like such that they're usually the ones that in reality do nothing.
Not everyone has it in them to end an animals life in situations like such. Like the op said 10 years he would have but today its not something he would do.

I myself would of most likely killed them but it's hard to say until you're in the situation. I know the op said they were friendly. Its a lot easier to kill them when they're acting like crazed maniacs then tail wagging pets.
I wouldnt of even gotten officers or courts involved. Too much time effort and money involved and like others stated winning a settlement and receiving settlement is a world of difference.
I would of chained them up out front or laid the carcasses out and seen if any stopped to claim or recover them. And if they did then discuss compensation.
In the OPs case I wouldn't of had the conversation with the crying wife. If the man wouldn't of gotten out I would of went to him directly. Knowing me I probably would of hopped in the truck if he wouldn't get out.
I would of gotten the situation resolved then and there or chalked it up to a loss.
Too many things in life I need to get done to spend all the time the op has already taken and will continue to take.
Usually if not resolved within a day or two it will never be.

yup, so now they're off to georgia to run loose and kill people's food source there...

pity.

and it has nothing to do with "macho"... it's more about opportunism. you can fix the problem permanently and feed your food source so nothing goes to waste.

out here we kill and butcher our own meat. killing stuff and cutting it up for consumption is o big deal...it's just a part of life. it's how God programmed us.

if one's not inclined to do so, that's fine...i'm not losing sleep over it.

And face it, the wife wasn't crying because she was upset about the loss of the chickens.

She was most likely crying because she was upset about the possibility of something happening to her dogs.

My brother had a girlfriend whose dogs killed baby goats. For play.

They went on to kill the cat, who had stupidly been declawed so as to "not antagonize the dogs". Not sure what else they killed, but I was worried the killer dogs would move up the food chain.

My brother married someone else. :) My sister-in-law has a pet fish, no dogs. :D

I agree with Xander, If it's an active military family, you are in luck, otherwise you may be in for a long drawn out civil case you may not even be able to collect damages for. As for myself, I would contact and "dog" the perpetrator into submission for the monies!
