neighbor's dogs & our animals

But there's less to bury.
I've taken to using my 30-06 as its a guaranteed one shot, one over kill. No wounded animals running off to die on someones doorstep.

A JRT may not be able to tackle a grown ewe or ram, but sheep can be run to death! Especially in this heat. The dog will go after the kid goats and could do them in. I would talk to the neighbor and tell them about the chickens, and that their dog is harrassing your livestock. Let them know the value of your animals and warn them, if they come up dead or maimed, they WILL receive a bill. I would also call your Animal Control officer or the local police and file a report. Then, if something turns up dead, they will have it in a report that this was an ongoing problem. If all else fails, SSS...

That dog certainly can kill sheep and lambs. Panic would do it, even if he never actually touched one. Since you have reason to believe that the neighbors are aware of at least some of the past killings,
i think that the dogs' owners found out that their dog had been killing our chickens and chasing our goats.

I would attempt to trap and deliver to the humane society before spring. Failing that, I'd hone my shooting skills and see what I could do about tightening up that fence. There will always be another roaming dog.

At first glance, I thought this said,
Get rid of any problem owners

By the way, yes, a JRT can definitelt injure a sheep or goat. He will jump at and grab the neck or legs, and not let go.

Get your own dog.

A nice Anatolian Shepherd dog will be an imposing force for ANY animal, including mountain lion and wolves. They now use this breed to chase off the Cheetah in Africa in order to keep farmers from killing them off. Oh, and a nice electric fence will do nicely as well.

A strong zap will send poochie over the Rainbow Bridge. Maybe your dead chickens will meet him there for some retaliation!

People who let their dogs run loose like this don't care about them, or what they do. Any responsible pet owner will tell you this. Take 'em out. I hate to do it, but I've had to deal with several nuisance dogs.
