neighbors dogs

I don't believe I should have to warn someone to keep their ( insert species here, as its not always a dog) under control. Since I have become the pseudo animal control in this area pets have been staying a LOT closer to home. Or they die of lead poisoning. Haven't had to shoot one in almost a month.
If I could "prove" who the (insert species here) belongs to I would have the Sheriff on their butts as well.

And I've warned no one. Word still gets around pretty fast when fluffy doesn't come home.

My elderly neighbor is a great lady. That dog belongs to her son, who is a trucker and gone alot. Sometimes her grandson is there and I hear "BRODY!!" all the time (the dog's name). They need to train him, but it shouldn't be up to a 90 yr old woman to take care of that dog.

Miltonchix, you made me laugh about "Fluffy" not coming home. In my former neighborhood, I put up a nice black vinyl coated chain link fence for my two dogs. Cats would always come into that fence and my dog, Cody, would dispatch them quickly with no harm to himself. He had a good method of rushing in (stupid cats would stand to fight rather than just jump the fence) and he'd grab them by the back of the neck and SNAP!. I was very impressed. He killed three or four that way and I'd always see that flyer about "Fluffy" missing.

That was one heck of a dog you got there! If I had known about him, I would ask for him temporarily to dispatch all those city tom cats roaming in my backyard, peeing up a storm UGH! Now how did THAT dog of yours started killing cats in such an efficient manner???????

I used to have a German shepherd and my dad used to have a boxer who both were very skilled at dispatching cats ... and getting rid of the evidence

About the dogs ... I will give them one chance if I can scare them off. If they come back to kill again (i.e. the owner is not responsible enough to keep them home) ... bye bye fluffy. My chickens are all contained in fences and so should the dogs in this county (really bad area for loose dogs).

Our neighbor on the right called animal control when the dogs belonging to our neighbor on the left killed several of her chickens early this summer. Reciently one of the same dogs killed 2 of our chickens. So I called animal control again. If it happens again the dog owners will go to court and will be fined. Animal control said we have the right to kill the dog if we catch it in the act. The dog owners NEVER appoliged or offered to reimburse for any of the chickens. If it happens again they will be reported.

One of my neighbor's large dogs climbed my four-foot woven-wire horse fence (he's a big goof, fortunately, and was the only one hurt!) and she had the nerve to tell me, the next day, about the $200+ vet bill. Before she got the chance to suggest I pay it...which is where she was heading.....I said, "You DO know that it is quite easy to train dogs. They can be trained not to dig or climb fences. I trained my dog, you know." Shut her up really fast.

I did run a strand of electric wire on top of that fence, both dogs climbed it one day and hit that wire with their heads while all four feet were thoroughly grounded on the woven wire fence. You should have heard the yelping! One of the dogs couldn't figure out how to let go and screamed and screamed! These dogs were also the obnoxious type that plant their muddy feet on you. They see me and they start to jump then change their minds and SIT. Only because I just happened to be walking across my yard when this happened.

BTW, these are very nice neighbors in every other way. It is amazing how people can have such a blind spot about their responsibilities.

Love the rotten meat idea, but it would attract other predators. How about the fresh scoopings from a cat litter box?

it's been 9 days now and i still have the wounded chicken in my livingroom.....shes still favoring her right leg ....i think the middle toe is broken ....if thats what you would call it....she only layed one since then also...but she seems to be in full health other than favoring the right foot

i forgot to say in this post that when i took a head count that night i was missing 2 chickens the one i found dead and i found another behind the polebuilding wounded .......have had her in the house since

I am also having trouble with a neighbor's dog. He killed 11 chicks.. then a couple of weeks later came and killed 3 Jersey Giant roos. He tears things up, tore a "daytime" tractor open, rips off the tarps, just terrorizes my place almost every night.
The dog has charged at me like he was going to attack... scared me to death. In all my years around animals, I've never had one charge at me for 20 yards ready to pounce.
He is too big for me to trap. I can't stay awake all night waiting.. I have to work.. I've used motion detectors, etc. Now I don't even bother.. I know what dog it is!
When I talked to the owner.. he told me to shoot it. It is making me crazy here.. I don't have a gun and I'm not going to do his dirty work!
What else to do? Animal control doesn't want any part of it I guess!
I have built a coop that keeps my birds safe now.. but I can't do anything if I need to separate, unless it's bomb proof.
