Neighbors dogs!

We have dog at large laws here. They can be shot no questions asked if they are a danger to anything of yours. Your right to protect yourself and property is not limited to just being on your land. You can stand your ground.
SSS is a well known practice of many reasons. Mostly because unreasonably people can't do the right thing and put their burden on you.

I recommend looking into premier 1 electric chicken fencing. It will keep dogs away from your flock and it is easily moveable. You can set up a different area every day or week for free ranging and your chickens will be protected. Worth every penny.
I purchased mine after a fox came into my yard, basically attacked my chicken at my back porch!

I really like to free range my girls but my neighbors dog recently killed one of my flock. Do I just accept this as a negative of free ranging? He did apologize but I feel it will not be the last time.
Has anyone else dealt with this?
Thats pretty natural. we cant blame the dog from being a dog. for them the flock is really just a game to play.. better save the flock or put them on a safe location away from the dogs. that's the best ways i guess.

The dogs should not be on someone else’s property to destroy at-will because it’s “natural”.

Several of my neighbors have "free ranging" dogs. (ours are fenced in) One killed 2 of my hens, unfortunately I do not free range the flock anymore. The neighbor offered to replace mine (she also has chickens, of which the same dog killed one of hers), but I declined. In my neighborhood we know the 2 houses that dogs roam the streets, we've just decided not to free range anymore. I hate it... Hers are fenced w/ electric fence, but they still seem to escape unexpectedly, so I know she's trying.
