Neighbor's dogs!

Thanks for the suggestion. The weeds back behind the fence are pretty high so I am not sure they would even be able to find the cayenne Pepper. Will it work if I just sprinkle it on the weeds?

I noticed in the picture that the dog is in the weeds. All you need to do is sprinkle the pepper on YOUR side of the fence. That would be perfect. They will sniff the bottom of the fence like the do and POW! If you want the weed area dog free then you have to sprinkle the weeds.

Why do you have to ask the city to put in a fence charger? Do you expect a city inspector to visit periodicly? Word of warning--- cayenne pepper is far far from being the answer. A dog that size, when his prey drive kicks in he will not be turned easily.

I would descreatly install a fence charger on the back fence.

Why oh why do some of the most ignorant of people have pets! Sheesh! I love mastiffs but they also have to be trained and handled properly because they are so big! They are really gentle giants but with an idiot owner they end up getting into trouble. Ill take him if you wanna sneak him to all the way to georgia lol.

Couple of things -

First...kinda like the paint gun thing. Although it sounds like the owner wouldn't care enought to feel the need to clean it off anyway, but I still like it. Cayenne pepper might be worth a try. Haven't ever tried it myself, but it sounds feasible...and wouldn't hurt.

Your chickens are definitely in danger from a mastiff, but you probably aren't. They tend to protect by "keeping at bay", rather than attacking. Hence, the whole knocking you down thing (I have plenty of experience with dogs - I own a boarding kennel, and used to be a vet tech). That being said, I would still be alert around him.

Definitely keep hounding AC. That is unacceptable.

If it were me, I would hit it with a fence charger, and apologize later, if needed. After all, you tried all the proper channels, and you are stuck with protecting your home and livestock on your own. Believe me, it will only take one zap, and they will be highly unlikely to come back. After that, you would only need to kick it on if you saw them return.

Beautiful yard, BTW.

The bigger the dog the bigger the sniff. And, yes Mastiff are pussy cats...but not around fuzzy feathered things. And yes...the people that usually get them shouldn't have them.

I was a Vet Tech for years and these dogs were easy compared to the little ones. But I would not trust any frighten animal.

Well, considering I will be 61 years old next month, am disabled from Arterial Pulmonary Hypertension, an incurable, progressive lung disease that is destroying the right side of my heart, use oxygen, and have severely osteoporotic bones, I think getting knocked over and held down by this behemoth does put me at risk. Animal Control couldn't care less but I do. I have beaten the original prognosis of 6 to 29 months so I'll be darned if my precious time will be ruined by these dogs. I will "hound" authorities until they force this neighbor into compliance.

Thanks for the props on the yard!

It seems that your hard earn tax dollars are going in somebody pockets if ac will not come out and control or take the animals .I lived in Fresno Ca for ten years and if I had an animal on my property I would just call the sherff department .I love Ca ,but Tx is my home .I would check with your local law enforcement on what you can do if the animal is on your property . I live in Tx and I will shoot anything that is attacking my live stock . I wish you luck.

Holy cow! I had no idea! I would have to say I agree with you on that! Now I'M kinda ticked off at the AC! In fact, I think I would call the station next time and let them know YOUR health is in danger, and get out there!

In our area if you can't get action by Animal Control (which we usually do) . . . the best thing is to call your County Commissioner and tell them you are getting no reponse from Animal Control. Speak directly to the person who represents you - not their assistant/secretary/whatever. Ask them to come out to your house to see the problem - the Yippee-Dog and the Hippo. (I don't know if you have the same title in your area, but who-ever represents your area in the County Government.) This has always worked for our area . . . they are elected officials and respond pretty well - especially if an election is coming up.

Wishes for good health to you!
