Neighbors!PLEase Reason? page 4 #35 Thank You

So true, Lee! Give her some eggs, possibly. I know sometimes the "killing them with kindness" can backfire, but it may cement a positive attitude toward you and your chickens and go a long way toward solving your problem. And if you do mention anything about biosecurity, make sure you are clear that it's to protect the birds from the humans, not the other way around.

on the line of fences...physical barrier

but you need to also form an invisible barrier. YOU set the boundaries for your property, animals and privacy. you need to do firmly but gently (because you want to remain cordial) set up a comfortable barrier by telling them exactly what you expect.

like stated in earlier posts, you get to decide when people visit. maybe ask them to call BEFORE stopping to visit the chickens so you can have hand washing and what not.

eventually, the thrill should wear off or they could learn from you how to raise THEIR OWN chickens.

we have had this so many times with people just pulling over and walking out to our horses and wanting to feed them etc. we let them know RIGHT away that they need to ask first, in a polite manner.

At least she's trying to be nice, but I'd really tell her to not come over if you're not there...then I'd mention that it's best for the birds, not mentioning biosecurity, just for that reason.
The neighbour who complained about Jerry and Slifer trespassed to get pics of Slifer, so I was po'd that she'd come to my place, call the bird over(lucky she didn't get spurred, flogged, and bitten)and take pics of her.

I'd definitely try to set her up with a few started chicks, a small sack of start n' grow and a little hutch or something, then put up an almost invisible, (say, what about CHICKEN wire?) fence between your properties.

Thanks for all the different perspectives,,,,,

She was nice before her husband called in the complaint, but her husband is a different breed. I like to be cordial, but thats it. Not into business of the neighbors. I like my privacy.

miss-jayne yes I do want to set the boundaries. This is why I put that wire fence back there when they moved in to keep them out of my yard.

You all have different perspectives and I have thought of some of the pros and cons.

No trespassing signs and electric fence

=just wont fly (too unneighborly) although this is what I want to do

I dont want people walking in my yard whenever they feel like it

I have been thinking of putting up a better fence, but that is going to take some time.

Yeah I thought of that too if I mention biosecurity someone might freak out!!

HHMM!

I guess I am left with teaching her/showing her etiquette?!

The blind leading the blind?

Well I am not the most assertive person in the world.

Well after reading through the posts again I think that I am going to get some of those semi-privacy 8 foot fence panels and put them up for now till I have more $$$$$$$. I have a couple already and will probably need about 8 or 9 more. The property line is at least 30 feet away from my chicken pen, which is also fenced in a block out panels on that side so they cant see it at all. I am sure this should be more asthetically pleasing to them and then I dont have to constantly worry. And yes speckledhen my chickens stay way in my yard. They dont go anywhere by that side.

Thanks All!!! Well I got to use some skills with your support and suggestions. The neighbor girl(6?) came back with another(2nd one in 8 hrs) friend and asked to see the chickens. I told her not now because I was going in the house in a minute and I had things to do. Then I told her that if she wants to see them in the future to please come to my door and ask, and to not just go out back and look at them. Well? What do you think?
