Hey everyone,
Our neighbors have 3 roosters. 2 banties in one pen together and a barred rock in another pen by himself. The barred rock crows non stop and our adjoining neighbor ( almost 10 acres away) called animal control on them.
I've read that roosters crow over territory but he is in a pen by himself on the other side of a shed so he cant actually see the two banties( the banties dont really crow a lot.). Anyone have an idea why he is crowing?? BTW... there are no hens in with him... a dog got in and killed them all a few months back. Could it be that he needs a girlfriend?

Hi. Roosters crow, that's what they do. It could be a number of reasons why hes crowing. If she is concerned about the volume she can get a No Crow Rooster Collar. Look it up and she can order it from the Facebook link, I'll try and post link for you. It stops or significantly reduces the sound of the crow. I've seen it in action and it works very well. It does not hurt the rooster what so ever. It is a simple collar they wear. It does not allow a vast expansion of the diaphragm and either stops the crow or greatly reduces it. I'll provide link in next post.

wow! that's crazy. I personally love the sound of roosters crowing, but our yuppy neighbors do not. I think the best thing for them to do would be move somewhere with an HOA, but that's just me. haha.
Thank you for the link I will share with my neighbors. My husband and I are going to help them move the pen this evening, but I doubt that will help considering it will be on the same side as their other 2 roosters are now.

Are there any restrictions about roosters or livestock in your area or are you completely rural? If you are rural with no restrictions then the complaining neighbor may have to accept that they actually live in the country, not a fancy HOA, and that country includes roosters!

no restrictions at all. We live on my family's farm. The land my neighbors live on used to be a part of the farm. But still who wants animal control coming to their door all the time, because of complaining neighbors.

If you and your neighbor are rural and your property is zoned for ag/farming then animal control should not even be showing up at your door. Sometimes you have to remind animal control of what your rights are on your own property! Instead they should be having a conversation with the complainer and letting them know that they live in a rural area with no restrictions on roosters. If the neighbors don't like what they hear in the country then they should move to town and then they can listen to all the neighborhood dogs barking their heads off 24/7 lol!
