Hello ! Thanks for the well wishes. I am about to venture out and check on them at first light (soon).

I stopped by the fire dept yesterday and double checked on safe wattage levels for extension cords. The fire chief was in and said he grew up on a farm and the chickens will be just fine. I did keep my 250 watts burning though.

I am nervous still about going out to check on them all. Thanks again for well wishes first light is starting and it takes a while to bundle. I have a 'cold' semi funny story : last night on my final check of them, as I was closing the outside door, one of my warm gloves stuck to the handle (it must have had some moisture on it) and when I tried to pull it off it started to tear. So I left it hanging on the door handle and will get it when it unfreezes.That is cold.

This morning we are at 22 mph steady winds, - 13 degrees and a wind chill of -35. eeek ! thanks again, gotta go daylight out., Kellymack
 
thanks for the idea Drumstick Diva, I actually did that last year and this year. I have what looks like a straw building from the inside. It actually works great for some of the larger areas.

The average stable night time temp in my heated areas is still only about 17 degrees on average. The sun yesterday helped a little. You have a tough job in these cold temps. Snow is bad, wind and cold are worse I think. Now we are all dealing with both.

Hopefully the roads are in better shape where you are then hear, still one lane on M-24 &. Very slippery. When the temps hit 22 or better yet 32 with no wind, it will feel like summer.
