Nest box preferences....questions?

I have been getting an egg every day for 2 days then skip a day. Then another egg for a day or two.

Came home from work today, to see a new nest box used, golf ball on the floor, and an egg.

My question is...does one hen check out and try different nest boxes? The upper one was used today, first time, so could more hens be laying now? Or is the same one, yet to be discovered who, just trying a new nest box?

Any ideas??

Edited to add, a smaller egg than the others I have gotten over the last week too.

One hen does sometimes check out a different box, usually the box that's been used by another hen or has fake eggs in it. Still, it sounds like you might have a second layer.
