Nest Box Question

I am about to finally finish my 8'x12' coop. It will be devided in two for different breeds. I have incorporated outside accessible nest boxes(4 per side). I am about to put 6 week old chicks in one side and the question is, should I leave the nest boxes blocked off until they are ready to lay or should they be open from the start? I'm affraid if I leave them open the chicks will use them for sleeping instead of what they are intended for. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I blocked mine off because they would all try to roost in them at night. I opened them up when they started to lay and everything thing has been fine.....
