How high off the ground are u suppose to put nest boxes? Also if you let a hen keep some eggs to hatch how are the babies suppose to get back into the box if the follow her out?

If you have a broody hen it is best to move her into a space like a dog crate that she can take care of her chicks in and so they won't fall out. Just for laying though, most people put their nest boxes 1-3 feet off the ground. If they are 3 ft off, the need a board to land on in front of the nest. Look at the coop building section and look at the inside pics of coops.

my coop is not very high, so my nest boxes are in the run 2 of them are 4 ft off the ground and one is about 2ft up. when i let them brood I move them in to a condo i made. (it's 2ft x 3ft x 16in) That way the hen is not bothered by the others and the chicks are safe.
