nest box size for large breeds??

    so i am wondering what size nest boxes i should be building for jersey giants?? i know the standard is 12x12x12 but what about for the giants i have heard 18x18x18 but thatseems really big to me??

    Two standard birds fit in my 12X13 nest boxes. Mine are external so top slants 14 to 12 inches. I don't think you'll have any problems with 12X12. You can make the top a bit taller but 18" in any direction is way more than you need. Mine have cut openings of 9X9 to make the nest secluded, they take right to them and rarely lay in the coop.

    You can go a little bigger than 12x12x12 if you wish but 18x18x18 seems overly large. My boxes vary in size slightly but keep 12x12 as the min size. I like boxes a few inches higher than 12" to pack a lot of nesting material if I wish. Add a board for the front lip to keep in nesting material.
