depends on the bird. Plenty big for a banty, big enough for a small standard chicken but a tight squeeze for a jersey giant.

I'm wanting to get 50 - 54 Buff Orpingtons for my farm and working on a design for a chicken house that works for me. I know I'll need 4 square feet per chicken and pretty much have everything figured out. My question is in regards to the picture yo put up of the nesting boxes; I like that look, design, & all that but I was under the impression that a chicken couldn't fly. If I have 18 2X2X2 boxes 2 feet off the ground around my chicken house and three stacks of eighteen equalling my desired 54 boxes then how will the chickens get to their respective boxes when, for example, the highest box is 6 feet off the floor of the chicken house.
