For standard sized hens you will want your nest to be at least 12" by 12"; a little bigger would be okay. If you have ideas about letting them go broody, it would be easier if you used removable nest so they can stay on the same nest they went broody on but moved to an area where they would not be disturbed by the rest of your flock.
