nest boxes

i think they are....theres no poke-age....lol....plus if they eat too much hay they can get an impacted crop...its not usually a problem.....but ive seen mine doing it...i prefer shavings and i know from personal experience its cozy lol

This just occured to me. Do you have golf balls or some other fake eggs in the two nests?
I have 14 hens and 4 nests and yes, sometimes when they are all laying on the same cycle nest fights break out for THE nest. However when some of the girls get frustrated and just can't wait any longer they will go to another nest. I keep a thick cushion of hay and golf balls in each nest.
I've tried both shavings and hay and much prefer the hay.

I had some marble eggs that my wife had in a basket, for show, and they ignored them completly. Im going to try some different things, but it seems they will do whatever they want. My nest boxes are kinda high, about three feet off the ground. I dont know if that makes any difference or not, but they go from their perches to the box with no problem

I guess I could do that. That would make the dimensions about 30x12. Its worth a try, Thanks
