My husband built a very nice coop and attached a long nest box across one end on the outside with openings on the inside of the coop leading to each nest. The problem is he did not put dividers inside the box so it is like one long nest. Will this cause a problem if they should start laying before he puts in dividers? They are a ways away from laying, but my DH is a serious procrastinator. : )

Are the eggs for eating or will they be sitting on them?
Mine are layers, and I have a long next box in my coop and put 4 dividers it - I found that they all started to squash into the one space! so took all but one divider out which was much easier

Nowadays they all tend to lay at different times so its not too much of a problem.
I still had one rogue hen who would lay everywhere BUT the nesting box - including the cat bed, doorstep, nettles anywhere really so I put in a large underbed type tupperware box / tray for her and elevated it on an upside down crate. She lays there all the time now..
I thinks they will make do no matter what! Best of luck :)

They may or may not use them. The dividers will make it more private, which hens like. It would be best if you can get them in before they start laying, but I don't think it would be a major catastrophe if you didn't.
