Nest construction...who likes a puzzle?

I am new here, I was stopped by!!Thanks for sharing.

crj, that is exactly what I want mine to look like. Going to suck it up and figure out how to use the wood I have now, plus some more, to make two just like that.

The shipping gets outrageous on big and relatively heavy things like nest boxes. Wonder if a kit with the pre-cut parts would they sell.

Rub the sticks together and make a fire for the evening and go to Home Depot and grab a couple recycling bins or go behind the grocery store and grab a couple milk crates and throw in a little straw or grass. They clean easier (second largest concentration of poo inside a coop) and you can add on easily. Remember you only need one box for about 5 birds.

It was fun to make. As far as I know chickens need a 12"x12" box. You could probably go an inch or two smaller if you had too. You can make it work with what you have. Just take your time. I've made 4 of them and they are used continuously. Shoot, I get 2 birds at a time in a box. Go figure...... those girls are goofy.

And you can cut a strip out from across the top of the two by two sheets to make about a two inch lip for across the front of the nests. Then the rest of the wood from those sheets can be used as reinforcement where the plywood is split in half.
