Mine rarely nest next to each other. They have at least a dz boxes and wait thier turn to use the same one. It varies from day to day. I guess whoever lays the first egg that day gets to pick the spot. Once two of them did settle in next to each other and while they didn't peck each other, they kept stealing mouthfuls of shavings from the other nest and throwing them over to their side. Quite funny, as if to say..."Can't you see this nest is better?"
