Hello everyone for the one that don't know I'm new here to byc I am wondering what I can do to keep my girls from roosting and pooping in the nests their roost is higher than the nest is so I figured they would roost on the bars but two of them roost on the nest. And also how high off the ground she the nest boxes be.

That's a nasty habit for them to get into. Are they laying yet? If not close off the nest boxes, so they have to use the roosts or go elsewhere. When they start laying they will be pooping on the eggs

Mine do this too, though I expect it's because they're ex-battery hens so have never had a choice of not pooping where they lay. All four cram themselves into the nest boxes to sleep at night instead of roosting so I have to change over the bedding very frequently.

Would be interested to see if anybody's got tips to stop this.

Make sure the roost space and configuration is adequate. Others may be preventing them access to the roosts.

Are you sure they are not broody? Sitting in nests all day and night?

Consider blocking access to the nests after all have laid for the day and remove it at dawn for a few days.

Can you post a pic of inside the coop and include the roost/nest arrangement. May help get suggestions.
