Nesting box -mailbox

Hi all,
We are working on a coop for our two bantams and a Rhode Island Red (and holding out hope that our barred rock is a hen and can stay with us!). I would like to attach a mailbox to the end of the coop to use as a nesting box (accessible from the inside for the girls). The size is approx 11.7 in. W x 15 in. H x 24.8 in. D. We plan to put a lock on the outside to keep raccoons, other critters out. Do you think the size will accommodate the RIR? What do you recommend in the bottom? Will hang some fabric over the front for privacy.
Photos of coop progress attached for reference but need to cut out windows/door yet.

That should be large enough. I'd only be concerned if it's metal and attached outside, that it could get hot in the summer in there.

Thanks for the feedback - we painted them a lighter color (so not black) and they will be on the north side of the coop to create shade, hopeful that will help!
