Nesting box opening

I'm using plastic totes as nesting boxes with a hole cut in the side for entrance. How big should that hole be?

Make it a large opening, with a (about) four inch lip to hold in the bedding. Remember that in warm weather, it will be too warm in there! Think about something with more air flow as an alternative. Mary
