I don't like the shavings and straw in the nesting boxes. Because the nmaterial always migrates into theegg collection bowl and if the straw gets wet, it stains the eggs.

I don't mind but I won't sell a blemished egg.

What is the pad I can lay in the nestbox that is easy to wash??

Very interesting. Never thought of that. Do you roll them? Or lay them flat? I can think of a few turtlenecks that need a new job.

We lay the shirts in there flat so that they cover the whole bottom of the nesting box. The girls do tend to move them around, but we just re-position them when needed. When bedding gets tracked in we just shake it out. It's been a few months and I am just now starting to think that they should be washed. We would have used towels, but didn't have any that were the right size. T-shirts were just the next available thing.

I'm wondering what other material people use in the nesting boxes. Like felt pads, or synthetic grass mats; the kind of things get used because there is a need and its around for free.
