Nesting box question, new coop pics

Shawna's idea's a great one-- use some kind of foam or gel pad in the bottom of the boxes.

Our girls aren't laying yet, but I'm using those thick vinyl placemats that you can get at the Dollar Store, cut to size. Easy to clean, cheap to replace, and provides at least a little padding, so that even if they shove all the bedding out of the box, there's at least a chance the egg won't break.

Very nice coop!!!! I bet you and your chickens are very excited. My nesting boxes have a 3" board that is set at a 45 degree angle going out from the box, instead of straight up and down. We did it this way and put a ladder and a walkway so the hens could get their babies out if they needed to and back in, yet there is enough there to hold pine shavings and the eggs inside the box. I also only use pine shavings. My guys and girls seem to make a lot less of a mess with the shavings. Also the straw can make a good breeding ground for lice and mites.
Good luck! It already looks great!
If I can figure out how I will try to load some pics of my boxes:rolleyes:
