After starting into construction on our new coop we are running into some questions about nest box sizes. It would simplify things greatly if our nest boxes ended up being 2 boxes 18"w x 12"d. Is that size box going to be so huge that they won't want to lay there? We've got 4 birds-buff Orpington , Speckled Sussex , Silver laced Wyandotte, Easter egger

If you end up getting more birds you could always take out the middle divider and insert two giving three 12x12 boxes too.

That's part of why we (and I really mean my husband, since he's done almost all of the work) are building another coop. That and the one we inherited is junk and doesn't quite fit our 4 girls anyway! Thanks everyone!

Mine's 14x20, maybe 22... it's room enough that 2 birds can easily fit in to lay at same time (I only have 4 right now).
