Nesting boxes out of buckets!!??

Someone posted a thread on how to make nesting boxes out of plastic buckets or containers.

I can't seem to find it and I remember it even having plans on how to make them.

Can someone please show me the thread. I need it for a friend who is just getting into chickens.

I can't find the thread (someone else probably will) but it's really easy.

Cut the lid in half (or little more if needed) and place on the bucket with the opening on top! Place the bucket on it's side and viola!! Instant nest box.

Nifty idea! Ask your horsey friends if they have an old rubber flat-backed buckets. Sometimes they get too scratched or leak. You can steady them against a coop wall and the rubber stays soft year round- can be half-filled with hay or other bedding. A nearby friend has 6 for her flock.

The trick to the bucket nest boxes is to do as the photo above, cept leave a bit of the top of the lid intact, attach a piece of cloth to this so it drapes down to cover the hen, that will keep other birds from investigating the eggs, (they can not see them inside) but the laying hens will poke their heads in and determine the vacancy.

If you have a CHOCOLATE builder (candy Store) where they make the choclate things they have BUCKETS OUT the wazzooooo. Tons of buckets....

This is an awesome idea. My husband has a ton of buckets kicking around. I am so glad I can finally put then to good use.

Seems a little tight to me. They could optentially lead to egg eating.
Other than that, its a nifty idea, especially for smaller breeds.

Would 5-gallon paint buckets work (assuming they've been scrubbed really well, of course)? Are those good for hot climates, or do you need something with better ventilation?
