Nesting boxes out of buckets!!??

Yes, 5gal. will be fine. We cut an opening in the bottom of the buckets to allow for ventilation. Two standard sex links will crowd one bucket in the middle of Aug.!! Though they have three to choose from

This is a fancy setup someone from the old site built (I would give credit for the shot but I only saved pic for reference).

This is our low rent version (strapping tape over edge of lid to protect the tootsies)

I think Ozarkhen also uses buckets (search her).

Cool! We're in the process of painting our house and will have 3 five-gallon buckets when we're done. It's a start!

Ive got some pretty nifty roll away nest designs using buckets. If any one is interested, Ill try to at least describe them. Maybe I can get a picture.

Then you dump the straw and add that shelf liner stuff.
Finally where you have a perching rail now, you put a hinged cover.
The hen lays on the liner and the egg will roll forward under the cover, where she cant get at it. You can add a little strip of wood under the cover, just high enough for the egg to roll under but which will further deter the hen from reaching under.
Remove the liners every few days to clean them and replace them with a fresh set.
