Nesting boxes?

I don't know if this is in the right place, if it isn't, forgive me. Anyway, what are some options for stuff I can include in my nesting boxes?
Stuff I have access to:
Dog fur (Yellow Labrador retriever, if it matters)
Shredded paper
Pine needles
Grass

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I have had carpet in my nesting boxes for 2 years, cleaning it as needed . I added recycled paper grass this year and it's everywhere!!! Think I'll go back to just the thick carpet , much easier . My nesting boxes slant back and out of the coop

I like the idea of pine needles and grass....dried out first, of course. My daughter in the city uses shredded paper...why not experiment with all of the above and see what they prefer...it would make a great kids science project.

No, the nesting boxes are not slanted. We/I collect them by hand

We use sweet Timothy hay in our nesting boxes. I buy the hay in bags at Meijer packaged for rabbits, guinea pigs etc. It's cut to a nice size to fit in the nests.

We used to put hay in the boxes, but the hens always threw the hay out.

When I switched over to roll-away boxes, I put "grass-looking" plastic door mat material in the boxes. I like it much better. I don't know how well the birds actually like it, they won't say. However, they use the boxes and they work as intended. The plastic material is very easy to clean; just take it out and shake it clean. The material is "cushiony"; we have yet for an egg to break/crack on the stuff.

what I can include in my nesting boxes?

Nest boxes
In my nest boxes I fold a feed bag to fit (nest boxes are 1 ft³). When a bag gets soiled; fold a new one; pop out the soiled; pop in the new. My Chicken feed comes in 40 lbs bags are a nylon mesh.
Frozen poop just peels off in below freezing temperatures and just flakes off in summer when left out in the sun to bake and dry.

I have 65 trips around the sun it is the best method I have stumbled upon.

Make sure the twine is removed from the open end of the bag it can get tangled around your birds.



I hold the bag in place with these paper binders.
