Nesting boxes are determined by number of chickens kept. 1 box per 4 chickens is usually enough. Even with that number, many of your chickens will choose and wait for one or two favorites anyway.

Adding fake eggs to the nests can help 'spread the love'...a larger coop is good, but won't cure the nest cramming and subsequent broken eggs.One goes in then a few minutes later the other one is waiting by the door and sometimes tries to go next to the one already in, I have had a couple of broken eggs when this happens, I think the jostling has caused it.
I have ordered a small shed I'm going to convert to a coop so hopefully it will cure the problem.
