How many nesting boxes can you use in an 8x10 coop . It’s actually a new shed

Nesting boxes are determined by number of chickens kept. 1 box per 4 chickens is usually enough. Even with that number, many of your chickens will choose and wait for one or two favorites anyway.

The general rule of thumb is 1 nest box for every 4-5 hens.
The general rule of thumb is 3-4 sq ft of floor space in the coop per bird. Lean towards 4 if they don't have a large run or access to free range.
It sounds like 4-6 nest boxes would work in your coop size.

We have 8 x8 foot coops (2 side by side ), we choose to place boxes across one wall with a 2x4 on top for a roost . We have 5 boxes they are 14x16,

We have 20 hens and they use 2 sometime 3 boxes

Chickens stand up to lay so we gave a little head room .

If you add your general location to your profile, it will help us give better replies for anything that is related to your climate, which can be a lot of questions. Once you add it, it will always be in your avatar.
Do you have a picture of your shed? You will probably need to add ventilation and maybe a window or two. I don't know if you have plans in your mind, of how your going to set the inside of your coop up, but here is the inside of my 8 x 12 lean to coop. Along the back wall is a poop board.

I keep reading different things about how many nest boxes.
I have 3 chickens, I have a small coop, the nest box is split in to two, but as some of you know they seem to prefer just one.
I have 2 hens laying at the moment, nothing yet from the other one, the thing is the 2 that are laying seem to choose roughly the same time to lay.
One goes in then a few minutes later the other one is waiting by the door and sometimes tries to go next to the one already in, I have had a couple of broken eggs when this happens, I think the jostling has caused it.
I have ordered a small shed I'm going to convert to a coop so hopefully it will cure the problem.

Adding fake eggs to the nests can help 'spread the love'...a larger coop is good, but won't cure the nest cramming and subsequent broken eggs.
