Nesting Boxes

    What is best to have in the nesting boxes. Pine shavings,Straw or Hay? Thanks

    I've never tested it, but I was told that chickens will eat hay, but not much straw. The hay consumption could lead to impacted crop. So I went with wood shavings (NOT cedar) and they kick them out a bit but it sure works.


    Friendly guidance? You did get the right idea and start your own thread, but you need to be in a different category still. Perhaps you could PM a moderator or administrator and ask them to move the thread to Chicken Behaviors and Egglaying. If you look at the Index page, link in the blue bar above, you will see all the categories.
